An hereditary disease in which portions of the middle ear or inner ear develop growth like bony sponges. When it spreads to the inner ear, it can cause hearing loss. If this happens, it is permanent. If it is in the stapes bone (in the middle ear) it can cause a conductive hearing loss (which can be treated).
